Glee Gum Giveaway: Make Your Own Candy Kit! -CLOSED-

Glee Gum sent our family a 'Make Your Own Chewing Gum Kit' to try. Wow, what a treat, have you ever made your own gum before? I hadn't either! Above are the items inside of our kit.

In the picture above is "chicle" the all-natural ingredient in gum that gives gum its' chewiness! Glee Gum still uses chicle in their gum products, while most other American gum companies use a synthetic gum base.

Years ago, American gum companies flew planes in and out of the forest every day to pick up blocks of chicle formed by chicleros, skilled workers who climb and tap the Sapodilla trees. Because they can be tapped sustainably, these trees provided ongoing income for the chicleros and their families. But when gum companies later turned to synthetic gum bases, the trees began to have more value as lumber.

Verve, Inc. chooses to purchase the original, natural chicle for its gum base in order to support the 2200 chicleros who still depend upon it for a living, and in doing so help protect the forest. The chewing gum kit contains a microwaveable dish to melt the chicle in. It's a very good thing- the chicle is very sticky and gooey when melted! This is my lovely assistant (my cute 10-year-old daughter, Rebecca) posing with the sticky, gooey chicle!


We kneaded the gum base into the confectioner's sugar....


...and rolled it out flat to prepare to cut the gum into bite-size pieces.


There were 2 flavor packets to mix into the gum as well: Cinnamon and Cherry. Can you tell which one was our favorite? We actually had fun offering the cinnamon to each other to check the reaction. Wow, it was spicy and very flavorful!

Monster Jam, the premier monster truck competition, is coming to Cowboys Stadium on Saturday, February 26 at 7 p.m.! You can purchase tickets for the Monster Jam online and kids' tickets are half price! There are also several discount offers available.

Included with your tickets is a FREE Pit Party, you will need to just pick up a Pit Pass from Metro PCS locations. Check for a participating Metro PCS location near you.
